Duane grew up playing baseball in the Greater Cincinnati (OH) Knothole Baseball League and played Varsity baseball at Wilmington (OH) High School. In 1985, his senior year, the Wilmington HS varsity baseball team claimed the South Central Ohio League (SCOL) Baseball Championship.

After graduating from high school, Duane served in the United States Navy. In 1994 while serving at the Pentagon, Duane began playing in the Washington DC Metro Men's Adult Baseball League (MABL) in the 18+ Division. From 1994 through 2002, he was named a six-time DC MABL 18+ All Star and was part of teams with the following accomplishments:

- Three 18+ DC MABL Regular Season Championships (1995, 1997, 1998);
- Three 18+ DC MABL Post Season Finalist (1995, 1997, 1998);
- Lehigh Valley (PA) MABL Memorial Day Regional Tournament Championship (1997);
- Lehigh Valley (PA) MABL Memorial Day Regional Tournament Finalist (1998);
- Virginia Beach (VA) MABL Memorial Day Regional Tournament Finalist (2000)

Duane joined the Chesapeake MSBL in 1996 playing for the Chesapeake Red Sox. In 1997 and 1998, he played for the Chesapeake Rangers. In the fall of 1998, Duane joined the Chesapeake Braves to participate in the National MSBL Fall Classic in which the team was crowned the MSBL Fall Classic 28+ Central Division Champions. Duane is an 12-time Chesapeake MSBL All Star (1999, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).

Since joining the Chesapeake MSBL in 1996, Duane has been part of the following team accomplishments at the MSBL National, Regional, and Local level:

Since 2006, Duane has served as the President of the Chesapeake MSBL. In this capacity, he has grown the league from 10 teams in one age division (25+) to more than 25 teams spread among three age divisions (25+, 35+, 45+). Additionally, he has been instrumental in establishing league sponsorships and partnerships from community businesses that have resulted in valued relationships. He also served as the Chesapeake MSBL Columbus Day Regional Tournament Assistant Director (2000, 2001, 2006) and currently serves as the Tournament Director for both the Columbus Day (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) and the Mid-Atlantic Labor Day Classic Regional Tournament (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015).

The notable accomplishments under Duane's leadership as President of the Chesapeake MSBL include the following:

- Designed and created the Chesapeake MSBL website (2006);
- Developed concept for Chesapeake MSBL logo (2006);
- Instituted annual Chesapeake MSBL Awards Banquet (2006);
- Established and Founded the Chesapeake MSBL Hall of Fame (2006);
- Initiated Annual All Star Games against DC MSBL which has benefited the Prostate Cancer Foundation, ALS Association and the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (2006);
- Spearheaded baseball equipment drive for Service Members serving in Iraq (2006);
- Obtained 501(c)3 Non-Profit Incorporation of the Chesapeake MSBL (2009);
- Initiated Annual Co-Ed Charity Game with Eastern Women's Baseball Conference which benefited Prostate Cancer Foundation and various Breast Cancer Charities (2010);
- Initiated Annual All Star Game against Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council (LTRC) Over 30+ to benefit Prostate Cancer Foundation, ALS Association, and the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (2010);
- Initiated Annual All Star Games against Harford Men's Baseball League (HMBL) to benefit Prostate Cancer Foundation, ALS Association, and the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (2012);
- Established Mid-Atlantic Labor Day Classic Regional Tournament (2012);
- Initiated Annual All Star Games against Eastern Baltimore County 40+ Baseball League to benefit Prostate the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (2015);

In addition to supporting the Chesapeake MSBL, Duane has served as an Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Southern High School in Anne Arundel County (1995 & 1996); taught youth hitting, pitching, and catching at Frozen Ropes Baseball Training Center; and has served as an Assistant Coach in the Four County Little League (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) and served a term as the Four County Little League Secretary (2013).

Duane is the tenth member inducted into the Chesapeake MSBL Hall of Fame. His induction took place on February 20, 2010.

On November 14, 2010, Duane became the first member of the Chesapeake MSBL to be inducted into the National MABL/MSBL Hall of Fame.

On March 22, 2014, Duane became the 20th member in the history of the National Mens Adult/Senior Baseball League to receive the National MABL/MSBL Lifetime Achievement Award.

Duane was recognized as the 2015 Co-National MABL/MSBL Man of the Year for his efforts as Chesapeake MSBL President by National MABL/MSBL Founder and President Steve Sigler.
