Member Bio:

Gerry began his baseball career playing at Linthicum-Ferndale Youth Athletic Association (LFYAA) from 1964 to 1974. At the time, LF was affiliated with PONY Baseball and during the 1969 season in the 11-12 year old bracket he played in the PONY World Series. In 1970, his team came up one game short of making it back to the PONY World Series.

20 years later Gerry returned back at LFYAA to coach his daughter and son for 10 more years. During that time, Gerry was Vice President of all the age brackets and was on the board of directors as a Trustee.

Gerry played high school baseball at Andover High School (1974-1976) and also played American Legion baseball during the summer. After high school, he began playing men’s semi-pro fast pitch softball. During that time, he was able to travel across the county to play in many national tournaments.

While coaching at LFYAA, Gerry was approached many times to play baseball again in an adult men’s league. In 1995, Gerry finally gave in and began playing for the 25+ Jaguars in Anne Arundel County. In 1996, the Jaguars team name was changed to the White Sox which is still playing today. The team became part of the Baltimore Area Senior Baseball Association (BASBA) in which the White Sox won league championships in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. In 2007, the White Sox joined the Chesapeake MSBL and played in the 35+ Division.

Gerry took over managing the White Sox in 2007 and still manages the team today. During his tenure as team manager, the Chesapeake White Sox have gone on to win the 45+ Division regular and post season championships in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Gerry has also managed several teams in the Chesapeake MSBL Labor Day and Columbus Day tournaments. Since 2011, Gerry has managed the Chesapeake MSBL 45+ Division All Star Teams and has managed each team to victory over the DC MSBL 45+ All Star teams each year.

Gerry has also been recognized by the Chesapeake MSBL for his dedicated service and support to the organization and for his display of good sportsmanship on and off the field. He has been an invaluable asset to Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks and the Chesapeake MSBL by providing assistance in field preparation for pre-season, regular season, and tournament games. He dedicates many volunteer hours to help out at Lindale MS, Joe Cannon Stadium, and North County High school in opening and closing fields for play, helping install and remove windscreens, and cleaning up and raking fields after games. He received recognition for these efforts and received the coveted Chesapeake MSBL Service Award in 2009 and 2011. In 2010, Gerry was recognized for his on and off field sportsmanship and was presented the Chesapeake MSBL Sportsmanship Award.

Gerry is the 16th member of the Chesapeake MSBL Hall of Fame. His induction took place on March 22, 2014. His number, 11, has been retired from All Star Game play.
