Member Bio:

Upon moving into the area in year 1992, Tom Finch began playing in the Chesapeake MSBL with the Chesapeake Athletics and has played with the team ever since (22 seasons as of 2013). Each year Tom has played in either the MSBL Arizona World Series or MSBL Florida Fall Classic national tournament. Tom has participated in numerous regional MSBL tournaments including Richmond, Charlottesville, Washington DC, Allentown, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Long Island, Las Vegas, and Chesapeake.

Tom has played in league and inter-league all-star games, and he was selected MVP in the 2009 game versus the 45+ DC MSBL all stars. As of of the end of the 2013 season, at 60 years of age, Tom continues to participate in the Chesapeake MSBL 35+ league as player/manager of the Chesapeake Athletics.

Tom has provided ongoing volunteer support to Chesapeake MSBL with field preparation and maintenance. In 2009, he received the league’s Service Award.

In addition to playing with the Athletics in the Chesapeake MSBL, Tom also has played several years in the DC MSBL with the DC Mustangs 45+ and Nationals 55+ teams. There were two seasons when he played on three MSBL teams concurrently.

Tom has devoted a lot of time supporting youth, teenage, and college-age baseball. For many years, he served as commissioner of the Annapolis Optimist baseball program, which sponsored high-school age summer and fall teams in Connie Mack, Mickey Mantle, and Joey Brown leagues. Responsibility included maintenance of the Annapolis High School field in summer and fall. Tom coached many of these teams, including the fall team each year. In 2006-2007, he coached with the Mayo American Legion Post 226 team. During years 2008-2010, Tom joined a fellow A’s teammate to coach the Loyola University club baseball team.

Prior to moving to Anne Arundel County, Tom resided abroad. In Switzerland, he played baseball four seasons in the National A League. One season his team, the Rohr Hawks, was national runner up, and one year the team represented Switzerland in the European Cup Championship that was played in England. Tom was selected as team MVP for the 1989 season.

Tom grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia, where he played baseball in local youth, teen, and school leagues. He is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, where he played two years football.

Tom is the 17th member of the Chesapeake MSBL Hall of Fame. His induction took place on March 22, 2014. His number ,15, is retired from All Star Game play.
